Virtually every second on the internet;
- 57 pins gets pinned on Pinterest
- 197 votes gets registered on reddit
- 463 instagram pictures gets filtered
- 833 Tumbrl posts gets shared
- 1,024 skype calls gets started
- 3,935 tweets are launched
- 100 minutes of video gets posted on YouTube
- 52,083 Facebook posts or comment gets liked
- 138,240 Google search links to as many Wikipedia pages
- 219,907 conversations are active on whatsapp
All the above occurs in just one second out of the 24hours in a day. What would then happen if the internet shuts down
for 12hours or even a whole day? lets think about it.
Asides social media impact, these other things could happen if
the internet goes down for 20 hours at most a day;
- Billions of people around the world will not gain access to vital information.
- Our Cable, satellite TV and radio stations around the world would definitely shut down. This I believe that would initiate a major outrage especially now that the FIFA World cup is on.
- Communication will be lost in very important sectors. E.g. astronauts in space, affect GPS systems, affect meteorologists in weather forecasting , affect military intelligence etc. and these could be disastrous for us all.
- Research projects all over the world would be halted as a result, and this could be quite fatal especially in the area of medicine.
- Billions of dollars will probably be lost by several Companies and corporations dependent on the internet. This includes bloggers and website owners cos there will not be atraffic at all so no gain either
- Bank transactions, wire transfer, western union transfer, ATM machines, will also be affected.
- Our smartphones and tablets will be reduced to nothing but MP3 player or handheld video game in the absence of internet connection.
- People suffering from Internet addiction disorder will probably fall sick within this short time.
- Lives will probably be lost due to communication loss on air planes. GPS navigation would be lost, leaving the plane hovering with no vector (might have being the fate of Malaysian air.....just saying).
